THE UPCOMING ELECTION

OBAMA. It’s all about hope and change. Do I think he’s perfect? No, he’s human, and I never trust a politician 100%. Do I wonder how he will get us out of this economic slump? Of course. But do I believe he’s different and committed to change? Yes. He is intelligent, and articulate. And Palin is just scary. Don’t tell me what I can do with my body, for starters. I won’t get into all the phenomenally stupid things she’s said in interviews with Katie Couric.
Yes on Prop 2, a modest measure that stops cruel and inhumane treatment of animals, ending the practice of cramming farm animals into cages so small the animals can’t even turn around, lie down or extend their limbs. For me, first and foremost, is that it’s a small step toward addressing cruelty to animals. It also improves health and safety, supports family farmers (not factory farms), protects air and water resources and safeguards the environment, and allows ample time for change (by 2015).
No on Prop 8. Prop 8 would eliminate marriage for same-sex couples. Why would I deny friends, family and coworkers a fundamental right? And who are these people that proudly display their homophobia by putting Yes on 8 signs on their lawns? Since when should someone be proud to be homophobic?
