Since I did an entry about Mother’s Day, it seems only fair that I should give a shout-out to my Dad.
For Father’s Day this year, the family went to the Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands, which just opened to the public on June 15, 2009: http://www.marinemammalcenter.org/. Here’s a brief summary of what they do, according to the Center’s website: “The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit organization that rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned marine mammals (seals, sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, whales and sea otters) along a 600 mile stretch of California coastline, from Mendocino County through San Luis Obispo County.” This place is wonderful and heartening. As Gandhi said, “The greatest of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” One of the seals in the place seemed to be affecting a little cough, and if I were him, I wouldn’t want to leave, either! “Oooh, I’m still not 100%...”
Since entry to the Center is free (although donations are highly appreciated!), we didn’t want tobe total cheapskates and decided to take Dad out to lunch in Sausalito. A beautiful day - warm with a light breeze. We ate overlooking the water, which was dotted with sailboats.
The greatness of children can be judged by the way their fathers are treated! ha.
