For the past six years, I have been a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters. When we met, Kelly was just about to turn 12 years old. I’m not sure who was more nervous - her or me. As a mentor, I was supposed to spend time with her for 2-3 hours every week. What would we talk about? What could I teach her, if anything? Fast forward to six years later, nearly 52 weeks a year. She turned 18 on October 10th, and I still worry about what I can teach her, and how to be a good mentor. But she’s turned out to be a good person, with a good heart. And that makes me very happy. I am not sure if I had a hand in that or not, but I know one thing. I have learned a lot, and become a better person myself.
